Residents of Kitumba-Kyakasiga in Bunyangabu District cut down a banana plantation and destroyed a house belonging to Richard Agonzibwa, a man suspected of killing his wife Brenda Nyakaisiki.

Shaban Kagoro, a relative to the deceased said the couple developed a misunderstanding on boxing day when Agonzibwa allegedly questioned why the wife had failed to cook the meat he had bought that day.

This later developed into a fight that left Nyakaisiki injured. However, it's alleged that Agonzibwa picked Nyakaisiki from the clinic where she had been admitted and took her back home where he assaulted her until she died.

Kagoro says that Agonzibwa had on Monday attempted to beat up his mother and in-laws who were attending to Nyakaisiki.

The couple had two children and, by the time of her death, Nyakaisiki was expecting their third child. But Canary Trust, the vice-chairman of Kyakasiga village says that the suspect is a drug addict.

Police took the body of the deceased to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem as an investigation into the matter and the search for the suspect continues.

But the area residents mobilized themselves and attacked Agonzibwa's home and destroyed properties when information about his wife's death started circulating.

Meanwhile, police in the neighbouring Kasese District has confirmed the death of three people in the aftermath of Christmas.
