A mob on Thursday set ablaze a vehicle belonging to suspected cattle thieves in Kikuube district.   The incident happened in Nyatende cell, Kigaaya ward in Buhimba town council.

It is alleged that the unidentified suspects while driving a vehicle registration number UBL 139Y Toyota Wish raided a kraal belonging to Moses Timbigamba, the Chairperson LCI of Nyatende village. They reportedly stole one cow from his kraal which they tied and loaded in the car they were travelling in.

However, before they could flee, area residents blocked the road and surrounded them. The residents sounded an alarm that attracted other residents.

The suspects fled abandoning the car and the suspected stolen cow. The angry mob later set the car on fire.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson said that the car wreckage was towed to Kikuube central police station.

Peter Bigirwa, a resident of Kyangwali sub-county in Kikuube says police should intensify operations to ensure that cattle theft is no more in the area.  He said that since October, the district has suffered rampant cattle theft with most farmers crying foul.

According to farmers, more than 50 cows have been stolen in the district since October.
