Mob Kills Two People in Masindi District

Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza says that Nyakumbe was lynched to death by angry residents on Tuesday, a day after the death of a 59-year-old resident of the same area, who succumbed to suspected poisoning. His family suspected Nyakumbe was involved in a plot that ended his life.

Two people have been lynched by a mob in Masindi district in two separate incidents. The deceased persons are 48-year-old Alifonsin Nyakumbe, a resident of Pumuzika cell in Budongo sub-county, and Vincent Katongole, a Burundian national living in Katiema village, Kijunjubwa sub-county.

Meanwhile, Katongole was lynched in a separate incident by angry residents of Kaitema village in Kijunjubwa Sub-county accusing him of masterminding the theft of goats and other animals in the area. Hakiza says that Katongole was found with two goats belonging to one of the residents, prompting a mob to pounce on him until he breathed his last.
