Mob Kills Two Suspected Thieves in Kikuube

The mob reportedly set the deceased bodies ablaze and also burned the motorcycle used by the suspects.

An angry mob has lynched two suspected thieves in Kikuube District.

The suspects reportedly raided a home in Musajjamukuru Village, Buhimba Sub-County, on Sunday night, attempting to steal goats. However, their plans were thwarted when a resident spotted them and raised an alarm, drawing hundreds of residents to the scene. 

The mob pursued the suspects, who were fleeing on a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number UGF 826G. They intercepted the suspects and subsequently lynched them. The mob reportedly set the deceased bodies ablaze and also burned the motorcycle used by the suspects.

Edward Kyalisiima, a resident, explained that the suspected thieves raided the area around 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, stated that by the time police arrived, it was too late to save the suspects. He said the police collected the bodies and took them to Kikuube Health Center IV, where they are currently lying pending postmortem examinations.

According to Hakiza, the police are yet to establish the identities of the mob's victims.

In July 2021, an angry mob lynched two suspected cattle thieves in Kakumiro District. The suspects had raided a home in Katugu Village, Nalweyo Sub-County, attempting to steal cows. However, a resident raised an alarm, attracting hundreds of villagers. The mob pursued the suspects, intercepted them, and lynched them.
