Mob Lynches Student in Jinja

It is alleged that Phillip Kalyegira, together with three others broke into the hotel to rob the guests. However, the security guard sounded an alarm.

A student of Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery has been lynched by a mob for alleged theft.

The incident occurred on Friday at Lacasar hotel along Wilson road in Jinja municipality.

It is alleged that Phillip Kalyegira, together with three others broke into the hotel to rob the guests. However, the security guard sounded an alarm.

His three other colleagues, however, fled off with 10 mattresses, bed sheets and other valuables belonging to the hotel guests.

Kalyegera who remained behind was beaten to death using stones and sticks. According to a post-mortem report released by the Jinja regional referral hospital mortuary, Kalyegira succumbed to deep cuts in the head and neck. 

One of the hotel employees who preferred anonymity says that they have been receiving complaints from guests about theft of their property.

Meanwhile, a second-year student at Makerere University is currently nursing injuries at the Mulago Casualty ward.

Atukwase Mukama a resident of Lumumba Hall was on Thursday beaten by students who accused him of being a thief.

Mukama is alleged to have been breaking into students’ rooms.
