It is alleged that Nsanje found his shop broken into and a flat television screen and some other valuables stolen. Nsanje and Muliika suspected Denis Kivumbi 36 of being behind the theft. The two pounced on Kivumbi who was in the vicinity.
The police in Entebbe have arrested a mobile money operator for allegedly killing a mentally ill patient.
Abdul Nsanje was arrested together with
Samuel Muliika, a village youth leader at Nkumba Kisembi LCI.
It is alleged that Nsanje found his shop broken into and a flat television screen and some other valuables stolen. Nsanje and Muliika suspected Denis Kivumbi 36 of being behind the theft. The two pounced on Kivumbi who was in the vicinity.
After the incident, Nsanje drove off shortly and without reaching the police returned and surrendered Kivumbi to bodaboda riders who lynched him.
Speaking to URN on Friday, the deceased’s father Pius
Kaboggoza Wasswa said as a family they were perturbed by the motive of the
killing because Kivumbi was a well-known mentally ill patient.
“So far the motive is what we are wondering about and
waiting for police to dig into because he (deceased) was well known to the
suspects. He started with Muliika some years
back. There was no issue of saying he
did not know,” Kaboggoza explained.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Patrick Onyango
confirmed the arrest of the two suspects as investigations into the matter
continue. "Yes, we have two suspects including the shop owner and some other person. ... The family of the victim presented to us documents proving that the victim was a mental patient at Butabika," Onyango explained.
