Moroto Schools Miss Meals Over Delayed Reports

David Ojangole, the head teacher Kidepo - Pupu one of the affected schools says the situation is alarming. He explains that out of 120 pupils enrolled in the school now a handful attend school on a daily basis.
Food distribution remains in balance among nine government schools in Moroto district after World Food Programme (WFP) halted its interventions over failure by focal persons to submit monthly reports.

The failure has forced hundreds of pupils to abandon lessons to engage in a variety of businesses including mining.

The schools affected include, Kaloi, Kidepo-Pupu, Kakingol, Lopelipel and Loyaraboth. Others are Nawanatau, Acerer and Moroto core primary teachers college.

David Ojangole, the head teacher Kidepo - Pupu one of the affected schools says the situation is alarming. He explains that out of 120 pupils enrolled in the school now a handful attend school on a daily basis. He notes that if no action is taken academic results this year may be bad. On the other hand, he apologizes to the WFP for the failure to submit reports to the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile a circular sent to the affected schools and signed by Paul Abul, the District Education Officer-Moroto asks the head teachers to submit the reports.

However, Abul says the matter has been handled by Moroto district authorities saying the heads have received warnings. He notes that the affected schools have only two weeks to submit the reports or risk being punished. He adds that WFP has now embarked on head count of all the school feeding beneficiaries in the district. He appeals to food agency to consider sending the rations to schools affected in the second cycle.
