Boda Boda riders in Kitgum District have lost 16 motorcycles to thieves in two weeks.

Simon Pido, the Chairperson of the Kitgum Active Boda Boda Association, said that the thefts have been occurring both during the day and at night. He says that the thieves are targeting motorcycles parked in public places such as betting centres, churches, and markets.

He says that out of the 16 stolen motorcycles, only five have been recovered so far and urged the members to be vigilant and take extra precautions to secure their motorcycles, especially during this festive period.

Pido explained that the thefts have caused concern among Boda Boda riders in Kitgum, with many expressing fear for their safety and livelihoods.   "This is a major blow for most riders who depend on their motorcycles for income, and losing them is a significant setback," he added.

Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, confirmed the reports of theft but noted that some riders have not been reporting their cases to the police.   "We have received reports of the thefts, but some riders are not coming forward to report their cases," Oyesigye said. "We urge them to report any thefts to the police immediately so that we can take action."

Oyesigye attributed the thefts to negligence on the part of the riders, highlighting poor parking practices as a major contributing factor,
