Moyo in More Chaos as South Sudanese Rape another Woman, Burn 16 houses

John Abingwa, the Moyo Resident District Commissioner confirmed the fresh attack by the South Sudan soldiers saying he has already called for a general security meeting later today to chart a way forward.

Violent protests broke out in Moyo town this morning following afresh attack by South Sudan soldiers in Wano village. Residents took to thestreets after south sudan soldiers reportedly raided the village, raped a womanand burnt 15 grass thatched houses.

Residents burnt old car tires on roads in Moyo town anddisrupted traffic to express their dissatisfaction. Samuel Obini, an eyewitness says police fired teargas to disperse the angry residents in vain. Hesaid the chaos forced traders to close their shops and take refuge in the townsuburbs. John Abingwa, the MoyoResident District Commissioner  confirmedthe fresh attack by the South Sudan soldiers saying he has already called for ageneral security meeting later today to chart a way forward. According toAbingwa, security officials from South Sudan were also invited for the meeting.He however, said that he was an uncertain whether they would attend because ofthe ongoing protests.  Abingwa warned Moyopoliticians against inciting residents to take the law into their own hands. Itis also not clear whether the local politicians in Moyo would attend themeeting. On Monday, JimmyVukoni, the Moyo LC V chairperson and MPs Hassan Fungaroo, Tom Aza and AnneAuru vowed not to attend any meeting convened by the RDC saying they wantedofficials from Kampala who can address the border problem. Vukoni said they hadtried to resolve the issue locally in vain, adding that, it is incumbent uponthe President to address the border dispute at the earliest time.

On Monday, Moyo residents led a procession from Moyo town to Kajo-Keji borderand threatened to close it to block the South Sudanese from crossing theborder.
