MPs Want President to Focus on Security, Poverty in State of the Nation Address

MP John Baptist Nambetsye, the Manjia County MP, says they expect the president to reassure Ugandans on the state of security in the country. He says specifically the president should tell Ugandans how he intends to address the rampant kidnaps and murders in the country.

Members of Parliament want the President to assure Ugandans on the state of security and measures to reduce poverty in his State of the Nation Address.

President Museveni will this afternoon deliver the address at the Serena Conference Centre.

Addressing the nation is a constitutional requirement from the president under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution. The Article stipulates that "the president shall, at the beginning of each session of parliament, deliver to parliament an address on the state of the nation.

MP John Baptist Nambetsye, the Manjia County MP, says they expect the president to reassure Ugandans on the state of security in the country. He says specifically the president should tell Ugandans how he intends to address the rampant kidnaps and murders in the country.

Nambetsye also says that Operation Wealth Creation-OWC program has not had any impact to Ugandans. He says that it is time for the President to tell Ugandans alternatives measures to address poverty.

Rose Mutonyi, Bubulo West MP also says that Museveni should assure women of their security.

Mutonyi also wants the president to assess the issue of wealth creation in families saying the levels of poverty are high.

She says that the President should also talk about the progress of Oil exploration and how Ugandans are expected to benefit from it.

Bufumbira East MP James Nsaba Buturo, says that Museveni should use the address to highlight about the high levels of immorality in the country. Buturo says immorality is the leading cause of corruption and kidnap.

Stephen Mukitale the Buliisa county MP says the president needs to talk about the state of indebtedness of Uganda and how Government plans to address it. He says Museveni should also account on how the taxes will be put to proper use.

Hamson Obua, the Ajuri county Member of Parliament also says the president should account to Ugandans especially on security and how they have dealt with it. He says the population is living in fear.
