Mubende Municipal Councillors, 14 others Charged with Murder

According to prosecution, the suspects on October 12, while at Kambuye village used spears, hoes, bow and arrows to attack and murder Yunusu Kasajja.

Two Mubende Municipal councillors and 14 others have been charged and remanded on charges of murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

They are Grace Nantubiro, Busaale ward representative, and Ronald Mugwabya, Kaweeri ward representative. The suspects appeared on Thursday before Mubende Chief Magistrate, Robbs William Komakech.

According to prosecution, the suspects on October 12, while at Kambuye village used spears, hoes, bow and arrows to attack and murder Yunusu Kasajja.

Prosecution further states that the suspects on the same day attempted to murder three other residents Katongole Ronald, Kizza John Bosco and Nsimbi Charles Achillie. They also stole saucepans, 3 mobile phones, maize flour and 200,000 shillings. 

The suspects were arrested following a clash between the residents of Kambuye village and agents of George Kaweesi who claimed ownership of the land measuring 322 acres located in Buwekula, East Division Mubende Municipality.

The councillors and the fourteen suspects are alleged to have engaged in a scuffle with agents of Kaweesi who had stormed the village to evict residents. During the scuffle, one people died and seven others sustained injuries.

They were remanded to Muyinayina Farm Prison until December 5th when the case will be brought for mention.
