Mukono grade one magistrate Ruth Nabaasa has dismissed the charges against Betty Nambooze, Mukono Municipality Member of parliament. She was arrested yesterday and arraigned in court for staging unlawful assembly at Kirowooza village in Mukono town.

Nambooze was denied bail and remanded to Kauga prison where she was later picked up at night and transferred to Luzira prison. This morning, Erias Lukwago, the lawyer for Nambooze challenged the offenses on the charge sheet presented by the prosecution against his client in the same court.

Lukwago said that charges were null and void and asked court to dismiss the case. He also accused prosecution of wasting court's time and violating the MPs rights by making her stand in the court dock for two days.

After listening to Lukwago’s defense of her client Nabaasa adjourned the court for an hour before she delivered her ruling. In her ruling, Nabaasa conquered with Lukwago’s submission and dismissed the charges against Nambooze.

Nambooze joined her supporters who were pitch camped outside the court premise and walked through Mukono town to her residence in Nakabago village in Mukono Municipality.

She complained of the mistreatment and violation of her rights during her arrest and detention. Lukwago told URN outside the court that it was unfortunate that the prosecution can present false charges before the court.
