Mumbere Yet to File Formal Complaint to Security About Threats

Despite expressing concern on the alleged plot to attack his Kingdom, the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere is yet to file a formal complaint to security authorities, URN has learnt. Early this week, Mumbere appealed to government to investigate reports that an unidentified people were planning to attack his subjects.

Mumbere said that he had received intelligence that, the same group was planning to attack his subjects in Kyatenga county in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. He claimed that, the group was already training in the jungles of Mount Rwenzori. He asked government to tighten his security saying his Royal Guards are not a combat force but their work is to protect Kingdom officials and cultural sites.

However, Bakari Muga, the Rwenzori Regional Police spokesperson says they have not received any formal complaint from Mumbere or any of his subjects about the threats. Muga says it is important for Mumbere to volunteer information to enable security agencies to make a follow-up to stop any eminent attacks by the said group.

Asked about the possible regrouping of the July 2014 attackers, Muga said those granted amnesty and those released by the Army General Court martial are remorseful and are well integrated in the community. He said they have not received any complaint of misconduct against any of the attackers who were granted amnesty and those released by the Court Martial in Bundibugyo and Kasese districts respectively.

Maj. Ronald Kakurungu, the 2nd Division UPDF spokesperson says there is no rebel group operating in the Rwenzori Mountains but reaffirmed that there are several Ugandan rebel groups in neighboring DRC. Maj. Kakurungu however, said UPDF has secured the borderline and deployed heavily in Rwenzori Mountains to avoid a repeat of last year\'s attacks.

He said Rwenzori Mountains are no longer a safe haven for anyone who plans to launch an attack of any nature on Uganda because since they have been secured since the July attacks. Maj. Ronald Kakurungu said security agencies will double check the information verbally volunteered by the Rwenzururu King. 

More than 100 people lost their lives in the July 2104 attacks in Bundibugyo, Kasese and Ntoroko districts.
