Muni University Gets Multi Million Labaratory

The lab was constructed at 214 Million Shillings with support from European Union under the Applied Curricula in Technology for the East Africa-ACTEA project.

A Techno-Lab has been commissioned at Muni University to support Electrical Engineering Courses. The lab was constructed at 214 Million Shillings with support from European Union under the Applied Curricula in Technology for the East Africa-ACTEA project.

The other beneficiary of the project is Mbarara University of Science and Technology while other universities are in Tanzania.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Lab on Friday, Engineer Dirk Van Merode, the European Union Techno-Lab Project Coordinator said the Laboratory should be able to help in the development of Industries within the West Nile region and beyond.

He said that technology students trained in the Laboratory will be able to showcase the outcome of their skills.

Abid Businge Weere, the Coordinator for Techno-Lab Africa said a relevant Curricular has also been developed for the new Technology Laboratory and linkages to Industries are being established in addition to re-training the Staff and providing Software updates.

Yves Masset Vice-Chancellor Artesis Plaitjn University and Head of the EU Delegation for the Techno Lab Project explained that the materials used in the Techno Laboratory are state of the art and have over 20 years’ validity and urged the University to ensure the sustainability of the facility.

The Laboratory is the first of its kind in the region and is expected to serve the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC and South Sudan as well.
