President, Yoweri Museveni has urged National Resistance Army veterans to embrace the new breed of leaders, saying they are also freedom fighters.

He also noted that not all the six million people who voted for him in the just concluded general elections were NRA veterans. Museveni's concerns stem from repeated complaints from the veterans, who accuse government of sidelining them in favor of the young generation.

Some of the old guards shield off any form of completion citing their role on the Liberation struggle.  For instance some of the veterans accuse government of decorating junior officers with medals leaving out those who were actively involved in liberation war.
