He said that being a son of the former legislator, there is a possibility that Engola Okello inherited good traits from his father and thus would make a good leader. Adding that if he performs otherwise then that will be his problem.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, campaigned for Daniel Okello, the NUP candidate, urging Oyam voters to choose an honest leader who will combat corruption and poverty.

“The Poverty and challenges that this government has put us in will end if you decide. The land grabbing here will end if you decide. The corruption here will end if you decide,” he said.

The by-election in Oyam North is scheduled for Thursday, July 6th, 2023, to fill the seat left vacant by the late Hon. Charles Okello Engola, who was murdered by his bodyguard.

Engola Okello, representing the NRM, is running against Dr. Eunice Apio Otuku of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC), Daniel Okello of the NUP, and Freddy Newton Okello of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
