Speaking to the leaders this afternoon shortly before the commissioning at Manafwa district headquarters, Museveni asked the roads users to desist from smuggling, saying that when goods are smuggled government does not get taxes to construct roads like the one he commissioned today.
Mbale Lwakaka road
President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned Mbale - Bubulo - Lwakaka road and pledged to construct more roads to improve the transport network in the country.
The 44.5-kilometer road was constructed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) at Shs 140bn, a loan from the African Development Bank.
Speaking to district leaders this afternoon shortly before commissioning at Manafwa district headquarters , Museveni asked the roads users to desist from smuggling saying when goods are smuggled government does not get taxes to construct more roads like the one he commissioned today.
He also asked them to desist from speeding so that they can minimize accidents on the road. He also pledged that his government shall work on Bubulo - Bududa Circular and Munamba- Magale -Bumbo roads, something which excited the leaders from Bududa district and Namisindwa.
Mary Goretti Kitutu, the minister of energy and Manafwa district woman Member of Parliament, hailed the development saying this is the beginning and that they are going to make all the country accessible by constructing more roads in other parts of the country as it is in the NRM manifesto.
She said with completion of the road, they are going to see improved trade in the area especially exports and imports with Kenya. Museveni performed the commissioning before be proceeding to Busia district on his campaign trail.
