Museveni, from the National Resistance Movement-NRM, has been duly nominated as a presidential candidate to take part in
the 2021 general election. Museveni was declared candidate at 10:37 by the
presiding officer, also the Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon
Byabakama Mugenyi.
He was nominated and seconded by Gaddafi Nasur, the NRM youth

Museveni who was accompanied by, among others, his wife Janet Museveni, Vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, NRM vice chairperson Haji Moses
Kigongo, Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba, Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana
Rugunda among others, arrived at the nomination venue at 9:47, 13 minutes before his scheduled nomination time of 10 am.
Speaking
before the nomination, Justice Byabakama called on the aspiring candidates to follow
the rules as issued.
“We urge aspiring candidates to only be accompanied
by only 10 people…desist from mobilizing supporters to be accompanied to and
from the nomination venue,” Byabakama said.
He also called
upon the general public to follow the guidelines which have been issued by the Electoral
Commission and the Ministry of Health as a means of stopping the spread of
Coronavirus.

Speaking to
the media after he was declared a candidate, Museveni also called upon Ugandans to
be wary of coronavirus Disease which he said is now spreading vigorously.
“The best
thing is for you not to get this disease but our people seem not to be understanding
this. Don’t play with this disease, it kills, most of the people who have died
have been health, they didn’t have any particular disease. Please don’t take this
disease carelessly,” Museveni said

Joseph, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, Katumba John, Kalembe Nancy Linda, Amuriat
Oboi Patrick and Mugisha Muntu Gregg.
For an aspirant to be nominated, he/she must present a copy of a filled nomination
form, proof of having A-level education or its equivalence, proof that the
aspirant his nominator and seconder are registered voters, certificate of compliance
showing that he/she submitted 9800 signatures of supporters and proof of
payment of Shs 20million which is nonrefundable.
