President Museveni arrives at Kyadondo road to pick nomination forms

NRM party president Yoweri Museveni has arrived at the NRM secretariat at Kyadondo road to pick nomination forms for the post of party chairman and 2016 presidential flag-bearer.

Museveni arrived at the secretariat after 2:40pm accompanied by the First Lady Janet Museveni. He was received by NRM historicals led by former Prime Minister Kintu Musoke, Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi and hundreds of supporters who pitched camp at the secretariat all day.

As the exercise comes to an end, Museveni remains the sole contender for the two posts after Amama Mbabazi, the expected challenger declared that he will instead be contesting for the presidency as an independent candidate. 

Mbabazi said that he could not contest within the NRM structures because all indicators prove that the party is determined to stop him. He also described as unconstitutional, the guidelines released earlier by the Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission Tanga Odoi requiring contenders to pay  nomination fees.

Speaking After picking the nomination forms, Museveni told supporters that decided to contest for the presidency again after receiving the endorsement of NRM historicals.

He says NRM has structures through which leaders who want to work with the party. He says his vision today is to see the country transformed by 2019 so that it can become a middle class country.

He appealed to Ugandans to give him support by allowing him to continue with implementation of the development programs such as construction of roads, the railway that is soon beginning and improvement in the health sector.

Tanga Odoi the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson says the process of issuing nomination forms for the National leaders will end by 6:00pm today. The NRM Electoral Commission will now embark on the verification of academic credentials for all aspirants in order to weed out persons whose papers could be challenged.
