President Museveni has asked voters in Bugiri Municipality to shun tribalism.

Museveni told voters on Wednesday at the last rally of National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate Francis Oketcho at Bukooli technical college that it has become a norm for some politicians to resort to tribal sentiments to win support.

Museveni also cautioned NRM party members against engaging in activities that create divisions claiming that such acts will be investigated and the suspects prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Justine Lumumba, the NRM secretary general accuses Siraj Lyavala, an independent candidate of deserting the party's principles by supporting JEMA's Asuman Basalirwa on religious grounds.

“After all the support extended to him both from me and the president, Lyavala has gone ahead to betray the party principles and has sided with an opposition candidate on religious grounds which is a shame,” Lumumba says.

Elections for the Bugiri Municipality parliamentary seat will be held on Friday. Other candidates include JEMA's Asuman Basalirwa and FDC's Eunice Namatende.
