Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja is up in arms against Buliisa district land board members for allegedly fueling land grabbing. According to Nabbanja, the land board members connive with land grabbers to conduct illegal and brutal evictions in the district.

Addressing the implementers of the Parish Development Model-PDM implementers in Buliisa on Tuesday afternoon, Nabbanja revealed that her office has recieved sufficient evidence implicating the land board members for masterminding massive land grabbing through the issuance of land titles to the rich at the expense of the vulnerable community members.

She vowed that her office will do everything possible to ensure that the current Buliisa district land Board is disbanded to restore sanity and stop land grabbing in the area. Nabbanja also accused the LC V Chairperson, Fred Lukumu of failing to take action against the land board members well knowing their involvement in fraudulent transactions, which has fueled tension in the community.

She particularly accused the land board members of allegedly conniving with Francis Kaahwa, a prominent businessman in Buliisa and Kampala to grab peoples’ land. Nabbanja noted that the government will make sure that all the illegally acquired land titles are canceled soon so that justice can prevail.

She directed Stephen Nfashingabo, the Buliisa Resident District Commissioner-RDC, and the police not to honor any eviction orders presented to their officers until all the land-related cases in the district are resolved by her office.

The Buliisa District land board chairperson, Stephen Majara Matongo has not yet commented on the prime minister's accusations as his known mobile phone was switched off at the time of filing this story.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development set up Ministry Zonal Land Offices in Masindi and Kibaale districts to carry out land registration in the Bunyoro sub-region. The Masindi Land Zonal office serves Hoima, Kiryandongo, Masindi and Buliisa districts while the one in Kibaale serves Kibaale, Kakumiro, Kikuube and Kagadi districts.
