Nakaloke Muslims Seek UgX 2.5B for Mosque Construction

The Muslim Community in Nakaloke Town council has embarked on an ambitious mosque construction project valued at 2.5 billion Shillings. 

According to the artistic impression, the three-storied building will host two prayer rooms with sitting capacity of 3000 people each, conference hall, shops and office space. 

On Sunday, hundreds of people drawn from various districts participated in a marathon aimed at raising funds for the mosque.

Dr Hassan Waswa Galiwango, the Chairperson of the Mosque Fundraising Committee and Director Finance in the ruling National Resistance Movement, said they are hunting for  2.5 billion Shillings with the hope of completing the work within a space of one and a half years.

More than 100 million Shillings and 2,200 bags of cement were raised during the marathon. 

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ramadhan Mubaje who laid the foundation stone for the Mosque, called on Muslims to join the hands to construct the mosque.

Saliman Farisi Hasan, the Imam of Nakaloke Center mosque, said the old mosque had become too small and unable to sustain the growing population of Muslims in Nakaloke town council.    

He said once completed, the new mosque will be self-sustainable since it will have commercial shops.
