Nakaseke Accident Kills 5, Scores Injured (UPDATED)

The dead are identified as Efrance Namwanje, a resident of Wakayamba village in Wakyato Sub County, Sarah Yaka of Mbikko village in Kikamulo Sub County, Nalumansi Nakavuma and another only identified as Willy a resident of Nnongo in Kikamulo Sub County.
Five people are confirmed dead and over 40 others injured in an accident at Nabisijjo swamp in Nakaseke district.

The accident occurred after a speeding truck (Fuso) loaded with Market Vendors and luggage crushed in the swamp. It was headed to Ngoma market place.

The dead are identified as Efrance Namwanje, a resident of Wakayamba village in Wakyato Sub County, Sarah Yaka of Mbikko village in Kikamulo Sub County, Nalumansi Nakavuma and another only identified as Willy a resident of Nnongo in Kikamulo Sub County. A fifth person identified as Kato Lwanga (30) later passed away in hospital.

Several other victims have been rushed to Kiwoko Hospital in critical condition. By press time, police officers and Samaritans were still rescuing the injured.

However, one of the eye witnesses Moses Walugembe explains that the accident was a result of over speeding. He recollects that shortly before the tragedy, the overloaded vehicle reversed at a high speed throwing vendors into the swamp. Walugembe suspects the vehicle had up to 65 people on board. He says that there were four people in the driver's cabin.

Peter Mukasa, the Officer in-Charge Kiwoko Police Station confirmed the accident but couldn’t divulge details amidst the rescue mission.
