Mwesigye is a former contestant for the Kito sub-county chairman's seat. His body was found on Monday dumped at mango farm belonging to outgoing Nakaseke Central Member of Parliament Syda Bbumba located at Mabbale village in Kiwoko town council.
Robert Mwesigye, the Nakaseke District Coordinator of the Alliance
for National Transformation political party has been found dead. Mwesigye aged
34 years a resident of Kijebejjo village in Kito sub-county was allegedly killed
and his motorcycle stolen.
Mwesigye is a former contestant for the Kito sub-county chairman's seat. His
body was found on Monday dumped at mango farm belonging to outgoing Nakaseke
Central Member of Parliament Syda Bbumba located at Mabbale village in Kiwoko
Suleiman Kabale, the Former LC Chairperson of Kiwoko town council says that
Mwesigye’s body was discovered by the pupils who had stopped by the farm at
around 8:00 am to pick mangoes.
Kabale says that the pupils alerted him and he immediately
notified Policemen from Kiwoko Police Station who removed the body.
Kabale says that Mwesigye is believed to have been strangled before his
motorcycle was stolen. The attackers left
behind the beans and polythene bags which Mwesigye was carrying on the
motorcycle. Mwesigye was a trader
dealing in the sale of beans and maize flour.
Residents say he was last seen at Kalagala village selling beans.
Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that the body
was found with a wound on the head, blood from the mouth and nose which
indicates that he was hit by an object.
The body also had bruises on the neck which indicates there was a scuffle.
Ssemwogerere says that police is hunting for the killers and has opened a file on a
murder/aggravated robbery charge at CRB 222/2020 at Kiwoko Police Station. Police also exhibited a torch and knife which they picked from the scene.
Charles Tukamushaba the Greater Luwero ANT coordinator said it was unfortunate
and condemned the increased killings of people in the country.
"It’s very unfortunate to continue to lose innocent lives in such
circumstances. We appeal to Police to investigate the death of Mwesigye and
bring the suspects to book" Tukamushaba said.
Mwesigye contested for the LCIII Chairperson seat for Kito Sub-county in the 2021
general elections but lost.
By the time he was killed, Mwesigye was a Senior One at Standard Christian
Secondary School in Kiwoko town after returning to school to attain minimum
education for leadership. Mwesigye sat Primary Leaving Examinations in 2019.
According to the Annual Crime report, about 63 people were killed and 26
robberies reported in Nakaseke district in the year 2020.
