Nakaseke Woman MP Aspirant Backs Out of NRM Primaries

Nassali cites the delivery of insufficient voting materials, vote rigging and change of sub county registrars as some of the reasons that informed her decision to quit the elections.

Jessica Nassali, a contestant for the Nakaseke Woman MP NRM party ticket has backed out of the primaries citing irregularities. 

Nassali was contesting with four other candidates including Mariam Kaberuka, Sarah Najjuma, Jovia Ampaire Nandugga and Elizabeth Nabatanzi Musaazi.

Nassali withdrew from the primaries this afternoon a few hours into the polling exercise. She cited the delivery of insufficient voting materials, vote rigging and change of sub county registrars as some of the reasons that informed her decision to quit the elections.

According to Nassali, some polling stations such as Kasambya in Wakyato Sub County, City of Faith Primary School in Kiwoko Town Council, Kamuli Primary School in Kikamulo received less ballot papers compared to the number of registered voters. 

But Henry Bweete, Kiwoko Town Council NRM party registrar says they decided to move the Nakaseke Sub county Registrar Steven Sebuuma to Kikumulo after receiving complaints that he was in favor of one of the candidates. Charles Mubiru was appointed to supervise polls in his place.

In a related development polling was disrupted for more than hour at Kiwoko Church of Uganda polling station as a result of disagreements between the incumbent Nakaseke North Member of Parliament Syda Bumba and the agents of her rival Paul Kasolo Sajjabi.

Trouble started after Bbumba borrowed about 20 none registered voters to cast ballots drawing protests from Sajjabi\'s agents. Sajjabi\'s agents led by Dan Kizza vowed not to continue with the polls unless the matter is resolved.

This prompted the agents to call the area registrar Henry Bweete. He directed that only those in the yellow book and with identity cards showing that they are residents should be allowed to vote.

Polling resumed at 2:00pm. Bumba is facing is battling with Paul Kasolo Sajjabi and Kididi David Bagarukayo for the Nakaseke North MP NRM party ticket.
