Nambooze arrested in Mukono over the Walk to Work protest
Betty Nambooze, Mukono Municipality MP elect has been arrested for leading the Walk to Work protests in Mukono town.
Nambooze was picked up this morning by anti riot police led by Alphonse Musoni, Mukono District Police Commander.
She was intercepted at by police who had three police patrol cars and an armored car at Bugujju trading centre and ordered to board a police patrol car.
Nambooze started the walk from her and walked through Mukono town and branched off at Bishop Trucker road which goose vie Namilyango to Seeta.
Police opened teargas to disperse her supporters who included boda boda cyclists fording them to fight back by throwing stones at the police officers.
Aliphonse Musoni, said that he was under instruction from the police commander to stop Nambooze her people from walking or arrest them if the resist the orders.
Nambooze however didn’t put up a fight during the arrest saying that she was walking for a noble cause as a member of parliament as one way of bringing government to attention to the plight of Ugandans.
Some of the boda boda motorists who were walking with Nambooze told URN that they joined the protest to because of the high fuel prices. Nambooze is now being held at Mukono police station awaiting her interrogation.
