Bumbo Town Council officials in Namisindwa district incinerated 180 kilograms of illicit meat on Sunday. The meat was confiscated at 4 pm from the butcher belonging to Muhammed Nabisi. Samuel Welikhe, the LCII Defense Secretary from Mukhuyu ward in Bumbo Town Council, reported that Nabisi had transported the meat to his butchery without informing local authorities.

He explained that the town council has a by-law requiring all meat to undergo testing and approval by the town council veterinary officer, along with being stamped for verification. Fred Wasilwa, the Bumbo Town Council Veterinary Officer, stated that last year, the district experienced an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, which was traced back to neighboring Kenya.

He further highlighted that in addition to disease concerns, the district is grappling with rampant cases of cattle theft. Consequently, the town council leaders enacted a by-law prohibiting the sale of unverified meat within the council's jurisdiction. Wasilwa emphasized that the decision to destroy the meat was made to set an example for other traders in the area.
