The Minister of Lands and an aspirant for the
second National Chairperson of the NRM, Persis Namuganza has said her focus will be on the
welfare of women and youth in the party.
Namuganza also the MP Bukono County faces Speaker of
Parliament Rebecca Kadaga who is the incumbent second National Chairperson NRM representing women.
In a phone interview with Uganda Radio Network -URN Namuganza
said that majority of NRM supporters are women and youths, but when you look at
many of them at the moment, they are distressed and living poorly.
She says this state of women and youth does not inspire more
women or youth to join the party, and her role as an incoming second National
chairperson is to transform the lives of these groups.
Namuganza says that in order for the women and youth to love NRM, their welfare is key and needs to be addressed. She says that women and youth need to be empowered
economically, politically and socially but adds that they have been let down.
She says for instance the proposals of supporting
the groups through savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOS) has never come through yet the NRM has been preaching this for some time.
Namuganza adds that there has also not been a single conference of NRM women and their agenda, and she
is coming as a woman of action to make sure all these can work.
She adds that as it stands, the women's section under the ruling
party has not taken charge with women and youths suffering and the women NRM leaders have kept quite.

for her. “I want to assure NRM members across the country that I have been
formally nominated; I want to tell them that I’m ready to serve you and I’m
looking forward to your support as usual,” said Kadaga.
