The national basketball team \'The Silverbacks\' needs for up to 1 billion Shillings to travel to be able to participate in the Afrobasket championship in Tunisia.

The championship slated for August 18th to September 2nd, will be the qualifying tournament for African teams that will participate in the Brazil Olympics in 2017. Uganda is ranked 15th, a slot away from the bottom due to the lack of playtime with other nations.

FUBA publicist Ivan Ntabazi says that part of the money will go into scheduling friendly games with nations before the championship starts. The bulk of the money however will go towards accommodating and sustaining the team in Turkey where they will be training from before flying to Tunisia.

Uganda was among the 15 teams that qualified for the Afrobasket championship and the only EastAfrican country participating. It\'s drawn against hosts Tunisia, Central African Republic and Nigeria, a group considered tricky based on the performances from Tunisia and Nigeria.

The team expects to be joined by five international players on Saturday August 1st.
