NDA stops sale of Enhancement Pills
The National Drug Authority has stopped the sale of herbal enhancement pills on the market that do not meet the required standards.
Male Enhancement pills are pills that enhance erectile functioning and are alleged to enhance pleasure during sexual intercourse.
The move follows the authority's decision to revoke marketing permits of 18 herbal products after it was revealed that the herbal products were adulterated with a synthetic pharmaceutical ingredient which contravenes the body's regulations.
The 18 affected products include; Tiger King, Libido Booster, Rocky Dr. Lee, Male Varility Enhancement Viamax, Sexy Coffee, Zeman SX Capasule, Manix Herbal Capsule, Vitality R, Manp, Instant Male Salute Power, Extra Power, Wake Up Man Power, Man Power2, Man PO, Heal Mr Power Man power liquid, Air Force, Manpower Powder, MP Powder, KBR powder.
In a circular addressed to all herbalists dated July 5, Hellen Byomire Ndagije, the NDA Director for Product Safety said that the banned products are contrary to the body's act which prohibits the sale of adulterated drugs.
“The National Drug Policy and Authority Act Cap 206 Section 30 on Impure Drugs prohibits sale of any drug which is unwholesome or adulterated or which does not conform to the prescription under which is it supplied.”
According to NDA, all the products were found to have been adulterated with Sildenafil-a synthetic pharmaceutical ingredient that is one of the ingredients of prescription medicine used for the treatment of various health conditions.
The banned products might have serious health implications such as bleeding of the brain that can lead to sudden death in extreme cases according to NDA. The authority has put in place a monitoring team to make sure that the producers, distributors and marketers of these products do not sell them on the market.
