"We removed the body from the tank this morning and handed it to hospital management waiting for any missing relative to come and identify it,” the Nebbi district police Commander Mr Filbert Waibi said.

Nebbi Hospital is currently holding the body of an unidentified patient who took his own life in the facility's water tank, after being admitted to the hospital under mysterious circumstances.
According to the hospital's administrator, Mr. Christopher Ongom, the patient was brought in by police and admitted to the emergency ward unconscious late last night. However, the patient managed to escape from the ward and was later found dead in the hospital's water tank early the next morning.
Ongom speculates that the patient may have attempted to jump over the hospital fence but tragically ended up in the water tank, which has an estimated capacity of 20,000 liters and is located below the ground level against a retained wall.
Reports from the community suggest that the deceased had been severely beaten by a mob who suspected him of being a thief attempting to steal in the Patek community, located in Nebbi Municipality. After the mob attack, the man was handed over to the police, who took him to the hospital for medical treatment.
"It’s true the patient was brought to the facility at midnight by police and was admitted to the emergency unit with bruises all over his body. However, after regaining some consciousness, he escaped from the unit, and by morning, he was found dead in the water tank," said Ongom.
Upon discovering the body, Ongom immediately reported the incident to the police. The authorities responded quickly, retrieving the body from the water tank and transporting it to the hospital's mortuary, where it is awaiting identification by relatives.
Mr. Ethan Omirambe, a local security guard at the hospital, reported hearing unusual sounds resembling thunder near the emergency unit during his shift. Upon investigating, he found a footprint on top of the water tank, and water was splashed on the ground. He promptly informed the hospital administrator, who instructed him to report the incident to the police that same night.
Nebbi District Police Commander, Mr. Filbert Waibi, confirmed that the identity of the deceased remains unknown. He added that the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the patient's death.
"We removed the body from the hospital water tank this morning and handed it to hospital management, where it awaits identification by any missing relatives," said Waibi.
