The Police in Fort Portal have arrested Musa Oze, a Nigerian National for allegedly stealing mobile phones.  Oze was arrested with Patrick Tumusiime, Bob Amanyire, and Mugenyi Hamidu all residents of Fort Portal.

Their arrest came after one of the victims whose phone had been stolen reported the matter to the police.

Vincent Twesigye the Rwenzori Regional Police Spokesperson says that the police used its CCTV cameras and were able to trace Tumusiime.

According to Twesigye, when Tumusiime was interrogated, he led police to Amanyire, a phone mechanic in Fort Portal who also deals in selling second-hand phones.

It is here that police found Oze who according to police investigation was behind the manipulation of serial numbers of the stolen phones.

According to Police, Amanyire failed to account for his stock leading to his arrest.

The police said that they are also investigating how Oze entered the country and how he started dealing with mobile phones.

The police have noted that some of the victims who lose phones to thieves are only interested in replacing their SIM cards and not reporting cases of theft to the police.  He explains that the failure of some victims to record statements jeopardizes investigations.
