Police Investigates Nine Over Njeru Town Office Fire

Police in Buikwe District are investigating nine suspects in connection with the burning of Njeru Town Council office block on Saturday last week.

 

 

Deo Abura, the Sezibwa Regional Police Commander identifies the suspects as Ephraim Nzirolera, a Local Defense Unit constable, Paul Musoke, the Njeru Town Council LC 3 Chairman, his vice Atanacious Ssemambo, Hajira Meeme, Physical Planner, Jamil Kasajja, Town clerk, Engineer Robert Taitika, Karim Buye, Cosmos Gaga and John Busiku, all Law Enforcement Officers.

 

 

A part from Ephraim Nzirolera, the Local Defense Unit constable who is in custody, the remaining suspects are out on Police bond.  Some of the suspects including Paul Musoke, the Njeru Town Council LC 3 Chairman, Hajira Meeme and Jamil Kasajja appeared this morning at Sezibwa Regional Police headquarters for further interrogations,

 

 

Although investigations are still ongoing, Police has ruled out electricity, as the cause of the fire. Property worth Shillings 500 million was gutted by the fire that gutted the offices of the suspects. Also destroyed are vital documents including Land titles, receipts, agreements and books of accounts.

Atanacious Ssemambo, the Njeru Town Council LC 3 vice chairperson declined to comment on the incident when approached by URN.
