Nine Kenyan Nationals Arrested Over Boat Theft

Nine Kenyan nationals have been arrested in Bugiri for stealing a boat engine from a Ugandan fisherman.

The suspects are Kennedy Ochieng, Benson Ochieng, James Oliome, Gabriel Onyango, William Ngeso and Tom Otieno.

Others are Morris Otieno, Victor Otieno and Gilbert Ochieng, the fisheries officer Bondo district in Kenya.

The suspects were arrested in an operation conducting by authorities of Sigulu Island, where they found with the stolen boat engine.

Robert Nabendeh, the in charge of security on Sigulu Island says that the suspects have robbing Ugandan fishermen of their boats on Lake Victoria.

Nabende accuses Gilbert Ochienge, the Bondo district fisheries officer of masterminding the theft.

He says several Ugandan fishermen have lost their fishing gears, boats and live on Lake Victoria because of attacks from thugs.

Nabendeh says the nine suspects are to be handed over to police for prosecution.

Deogratius Mwogerwa, the deputy fisheries officer Bugiri says the suspects have been targeting fishermen on Maninga and Sigulu landing sites.

He says piracy has been increasing on Lake Victoria of recent.
