Fort Portal City police are investigating a case of murder and aggravated defilement involving a nine-year-old girl. Patience Biira, a pupil at St. Michael Nursery and Primary School in Fort Portal was found dead on Wednesday night in Katunguru Cell in Fort Portal North Division after she had gone missing earlier that evening.
According to Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, Patience had been sent by her mother Jonolesi Kiiza at around 8:30 PM to buy groundnuts from a nearby shop. When she failed to return after 40 minutes, her worried mother went to the shopkeeper, who confirmed that Patience had bought the groundnuts and left immediately.
A frantic search followed, leading the mother to report the child's disappearance at Bukuuku Police Post. Shortly after filing the report, she was informed that Patience’s body had been discovered in a secluded area in the village. Twesige says that when the Police arrived at the scene they found Patinkin lying on her back with signs of sexual assault and strangulation.
"Blood was reportedly seen coming from her private parts, and her underwear had been removed." The Police mouthpiece added. Police have since arrested three suspects in connection with the crime and a mobile phone believed to belong to one of the suspects was recovered at the scene.
Twesige revealed that the owner of the phone had attempted to mislead investigators by reporting an alleged assault against himself at Karago Police Station. The victim’s body was been taken to Fort Portal Regional Referal Hospital for a postmortem.
