NRM CEC Decision on Speakers Race Pushed to Sunday

Members who attended the meeting that ended close to 8;30 pm, told URN that although there were proposals that the members spend the night at State House, Entebbe to finalize the matter, many suggested that the meeting be moved to 8 am on Sunday so that both the candidates for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker can be agreed upon.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will continue with their  meeting to vet the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament on Sunday.

Former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and former Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah are the frontrunners in the race to lead Parliament. According to one of the CEC members, although CEC had reached a consensus, one of the candidates requested that the matter is moved to Sunday.

“We have not yet agreed on the matter, both the deputy and the Speaker, and so we will continue. After they all presented their case, they did not attend the deliberations but we could not finalize it” a source who attended the meeting said.

The matter was meant to go to the NRM caucus tomorrow, and CEC is hopeful that the process can be completed before everything is sent to caucus.
