The NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) has failed to choose between Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga and Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah who were seeking it's endorsement to contest for the position of Speaker of the 10th Parliament.
The committee, which sat for the better part of Monday until after midnight, resolved to allow the two principles who formally expressed interest in the position to hold campaigns when the NRM caucus meets on Thursday May 5.
URN has learnt that sections of members in CEC had proposed that the current status quo remains but it was rejected in favour of voting in the caucus comprising of over 300 MPs. The vote will be preceded with an address by the party chairman Yoweri Museveni.
NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi says both Kadaga and Oulanyah were interviewed on their integrity, loyalty and performance in Parliament, among other yardsticks.

“Kadaga assured the committee members that she has represented Parliament and Uganda in different fora, on top of steering the 9th Parliament well. She further prided herself in having been the first to challenge former Premier, Amama Mbabazi before the party fired him,†a source who attended the meeting revealed.
Oulanyah, on the other hand, is quoted to have prided himself for being a loyal cadre, who has toed the party line in Parliament. He further accused Kadaga of sometimes defying rules of procedures in Parliament during key debates.
Meanwhile Contenders for the deputy speaker position, including Monica Amoding, Jovah Kamateeka, Agaba Abbas, Theodore Ssekikubo and Denis Hamson Obua, were also interviewed.
CEC has also given MPs interested in vying for the position of deputy speaker up to 6 pm today to express interest at the NRM EC office. Public campaigns for the positions have also been banned.
The party has also asked the party chairman to also meet with Kadaga and Oulanyah, over the frosty relationship between the two that has spiraled into the media for campaigns of the position.
