The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders and supporters in Pader district have defied the Health Ministry`s guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures to contain the spread of coronavirus disease in the country during its door to door campaign launch.

The party has since last week embarked on a door to door campaign strategy launch in Acholi Sub Region in a bid to win the 2021 general elections.

The party through its Chief Mobiliser and Head of Campaign for Acholi Sub Region Bosco Odoch Olak has been gathering hundreds of NRM party candidates, chairpersons, supporters and officials to witness the campaign strategy launch and solicit votes for incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and NRM candidates.

It has attracted more than five hundred people from each district. Majority of the attendees have not been wearing face masks and observing physical social distancing which is opposed to the requirements for containing the spread of Covid-19 in the district.

In the districts of Gulu, Amuru and Pader the party leaders and supporters have danced and rejoiced to tunes of victories for Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM candidates come 2021.

In Amuru district and Pader districts, more than one thousand people attended the ceremony that was held at Madiba Hotel in Amuru Sub County and Pajule Town Council on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

This comes at the time when Uganda is registering an upsurge in the cases of Covid-19 deaths and infections. Uganda has so far registered 27,766 cumulative cases of Covid-19 and 224 cumulative deaths.

However, Bosco Odoch Olak the Acholi Sub Regional Head of Mobilization said that their major aims are to win the 2021 general elections and garner more than 95% votes for Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

But Santos Okot Lapolo has pleaded with everyone to adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines aimed at containing the spread of the disease arguing that the disease is real.

Brigadier General Bonny Bamwiseki, the Acholi Sub Regional Chairperson for Covid-19 taskforce has equally asked everybody to join hands in fighting the deadly disease.
