Independent leaning National Resistance Movement-NRM parliamentary candidates in Busia district have rejected the ongoing reconciliation by the party leadership, saying it is a waste of time.

A number of independents say they can’t pull out from the polls for fear of tainting their political image and credibility among voters.

They also argue that they decided to get nominated as independent candidates because of their support and strength on the ground.

Geoffrey Macho, an independent and incumbent Busia Municipality Member of parliament, says that he can’t withdraw from the race in favour of his NRM rival, Hassan Kamba because the primaries were flawed.

He also questions some of the people sent by the party leadership to conduct the reconciliation talks.
