NRM Sweeps Kigezi Local Government Polls

In Kisoro district, the incumbent and NRM candidate, Abel Bizimana retained his seat after garnering 55567 votes to defeat his closest contender and former LC V chairperson, Milton Bazanye Mutabazi who got 13234 votes. Independent Naboth Tumubweire trailed with 1597 votes.
The ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party has swept the majority of LC V chairperson seats in Kigezi sub-region.  In Kabale district, Katuna border based money changer and NRM candidate, Nelson Nshangabasheija was declared the winner this morning by the District Returning officer Ahmed Nadulli Musisi. 

He garnered 36,107 votes against 33651 votes collected by his independent rival and former Kyankwanzi Resident District Commissioner, Denis Ndyomugyenyi Nzeirwe. The Alliance for National Transition-ANT party candidate trailed with 1219 votes. In Rubanda district, the Returning Officer, Annet Ashaba declared NRM candidate, Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba elected. 

Kasyaba garnered 36,554 votes equivalent defeating the incumbent district speaker, Pastori Twinomuhangi who got 21701 votes. Uganda People’s Congress-UPC party chairperson, Obed Habasa trailed with 2016 votes.

In Rukiga district, NRM’s Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere garnered 20,200 votes defeating his rival and Forum for Democratic Change-FDC candidate, Michael Kwarikunda Mbareeba who got 12308 votes. National Unity Platform-NUP candidate, Onesmus Arinda came third with 1150 votes while independent candidate, Martin Rumanzi trailed the pack with 478 votes.

  In Rukungiri, Geoffrey Kyomukama Rukaaga garnered 34363 votes defeating the incumbent and independent candidate, Andrewson Kateebire who got 25158 votes.  The FDC flag-bearer Martin Byomuhangi got 16032 votes while independent candidate, Jackson Mwesigwa trailed with 607 votes.

It's only in Kanungu district where independent candidate, Sam Kajojo trounced the NRM candidate, Zepher Ayebare. Kajojo garnered 45104 votes against Ayebare’s 36763 votes while John Vianny Ayebare trailed with 596 votes.
