At least 360 National Executive Council (NEC) members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) converge today at State House Entebbe to endorse its party\'s leaders.
The Council is the standing committee of the national conference. Among its roles is to recommend to the delegates conference persons competing for the positions of National Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary General, National Treasurer, Deputy Secretary General and President.
The NEC sitting is expected to endorse six new members to constitute the party\'s 24-man top decision making organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
These include Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Defence Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, Justice Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde, Dorothy Hyuha, and Yumbe Woman MP, Huda Oleru.
This is after they were nominated in January 2015 to sit on CEC as members.
According to NRM Caucus spokesperson, Denis Hamson Obua, the meeting will also have the Central Executive Committee (CEC) present names of members who have interest in the top leadership positions in the party.
“Right now, we are preparing to hold our national conference slated for October this year. As NEC, we need to know those who are vying for these positions and later present them to the delegates for election,†Obua told URN on phone.
