The National Unity Platform, NUP Moroto woman parliamentary candidate Zainab Angella Ali has been arrested.

Zainab was arrested on Thursday evening with scores of NUP supporters in Moroto town as they held a peaceful demonstration demanding the release of NUP presidential candidate, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.

Eight people were arrested from Campswahili Juu when a section of NUP supporters lit tyres at the junction between Kitale and Dodoth Road.

It all started as a peaceful demonstration in the business district when a group of NUP supporters marched through Kitale Road holding Free Bobi Wine placards. A group of about 10 youths held the placards but later more supporters gathered.

Police immediately fired tear gas and bullets to disperse the crowd.

The Moroto DPC, Jude Nasucha accuses Zainab of mobilizing NUP supporters to demonstrate.

The NUP Coordinator for Moroto Andrew Lokong explains that they want to join the rest of the country in demanding for the release of Kyagulanyi.
