Oman team celebrates with the trophy at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Tuesday.
The national team of Oman are the champions of the 2017 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3 Championship that ended on Tuesday.

“We are glad to win the tournament. I think it is a big achievement for us,” Oman captain Sultan Ahmed told URN the game at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The final was however not completed because of the heavy rains which forced the International Cricket body to follow the rules and declare Oman champions because they had picked eight points from the event, while Canada were second.

Canada had batted first to put on 176 in 38 overs before the rain came down. “Overall we played well so I will not say we are disappointed because we have made it to Division 2 and the next stage of the 2019 World Cup qualifier,” said Canada's coach and former Uganda Cricket Cranes player Henry Osinde.

Oman's coach Duleep Mendip said that his boys deserved it because they have worked hard. He said the T20 tournament the team had played in before gave players the experience and an education on how to perform at the highest level.

The other games were also washed away by the rain as USA finished third and Singapore 4th. Uganda and Malaysia that were relegated to Division 4 were fifth and sixth respectively.

Oman and Canada have now joined other sides in Division 2 like UAE, Scotland, Papau New Guinea, Hong Kong, Kenya, Netherlands, Namibia and Nepal.
