The man who was captured on video attacking his
grandmother in Omoro district has appeared in court for attempted murder. Brian
Okello appeared Wednesday afternoon before the Gulu Grade One Magistrate, Grace
Turibamwe who read for him the charges.
Court heard that on April 12, 2020 Okello
tortured and mauled his 82-year-old grandmother, Lucy Anek at her home in
Amilobo village in Patuda Parish in Ongako Sub-County in Omoro District.
Turibamwe didn’t allow the accused to enter any
plea since his court lacks jurisdiction over capital matters. He therefore
remanded Okello to Gulu prison until May 5th, 2020 when he matter
will return to court for mention.
Trouble for Okello started after a video in, which he was
captured attacking his grandmother with a huge stick went viral on social
media. Anek collapsed at the roadside on her way
to report the matter to the Local Council authorities.
She was later rushed to Gulu Regional Referral
Hospital and later transferred to Flama Clinic in Gulu Town where she is
currently receiving further treatment. Police launched a manhunt for Okello and
