Omoro District Engineer in Trouble For Abuse of Office

The Omoro District Engineer, Patrick Obwoya is in trouble for alleged abuse of office and misusing government property. He was picked up by the Inspectorate of Government on Monday morning. 

Obwoya is accused of diverting  a wheel loader registration number UG 2025W from doing road work in Bobi Sub –County to work on a private farm belonging to Joe Francis Lamony in Awere Sub –County.  

Geoffrey Matovu, the Regional Inspectorate Officer in Gulu, says Obwoya was arrested together with the operator of wheel loader, Onex Otim. 

According to Matovu, they received a complaint from the local community on May 2018 and launched investigations.

He says they went to Otim’s private farm where they found the wheel loader. 

He says they conducted further investigations and summoned the duo to the Regional Inspectorate Office for questioning before they apprehended and taken to Kampala where they will appear before the Anti-Corruption court.

Francis Wadok Awori, the Omoro district Works and Technical Services Secretary hailed the Inspectorate of Government for its intervention. 

He blamed some political leaders in the district for using the district engineer, which has landed him in trouble.

According to section 87 of the penal code act, abuse of office is a criminal offence. The offender is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years.
