Charles Wesley Mumbere, the King of Rwenzururu Kingdom is being held at Nalufenya in Jinja district.

Police Spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, says Mumbere is wanted together with his guards in connection to the death of more than 60 people in the last one week.

Thirty Rwenzururu Royal guards were picked up this morning, barely 24 hours after the arrest of King Mumbere. According to Kaweesi, the weapons used in the killings have been traced to the kingdom.

He explains that police had earlier asked Mumbere to direct his subjects to surrender all deadly weapons in their possession in vain.

"Charles Mumbere is solely to blame for what happened in Kasese because of his approach. He has built himself a militia, which is now being used against the people," said Kaweesi.

Herbert Muhangi, the Commandant of the Flying Squad Unit has confirmed the detention of Mumbere at Nalufenya. "We have him here but we shall only allow limited visitors for him,” Muhangi told Uganda Radio Network.

Police has only cleared the queen of Rwenzururu, the king's brother and Members of Parliament from Rwenzururu to see the Omusinga.

This is not the first time Mumbere is being blamed for clashes in Rwenzori region. At the beginning of this year, Mumbere was implicated for inciting clashes in Kasese between the Bamba and Bakonzo.

As a result, the Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura met Mumbere and they resolved to work together to investigate the clashes, which claimed dozens of people.
