One person was injured after a speeding concrete mixer truck with registration UBG 152D he was travelling in tipped over in Kitgum Municipality. The incident happened on Monday afternoon at the main roundabout along the Gulu-Kitgum Highway.

The victim identified only as Yona is a casual labourer working for China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd, the Chinese firm undertaking the construction of Kitgum Central Market.  He was rushed for emergency medical treatment in critical condition.

The truck which belongs to the Chinese firm was reportedly transporting 20 tons of concrete to Kitgum Central Market construction site from Pandwong Division. Felix Komakech, an eyewitness at a washing bay adjacent to the accident scene says the truck was being driven at a very high speed before it lost control at a sharp bend, slightly after the roundabout and swerved off the road.

Komakech suspects that Yona first fell off the truck after it hit the edge of the road before it run over him. According to Komakech, another casual labourer who sat on the right rear end of the truck was equally thrown off but escaped with minor injuries.
