One dead, 53 Kabore High School students In Hospital After Accident

One student died and 53 were injured and transferred to Kapchorwa General Hospital after their vehicle over turned three times on Friday in Kapchorwa District.

The vehicle registration number  UAN 543N, an Isuzu was transporting students of Kabore High School, Chema sub county for a football match at the Sippi Playground in Munaria sub county, Kapchorwa district.

Dr. Isaac Cherista, the acting District Health Officer – DHO Kapchorwa said 54 injured students were admitted at Kapchorwa General Hospital on Friday but one died while in the theatre.

He said out of the 53 currently admitted at the Hospital eight are in critical condition. Dr. Cherista said some of them had head injuries and other fractures. of the upper and lower limbs.

Eugene Erwaru, Kapchorwa District  Police Commander confirmed that the accident took place and identified the deceased as Ashima Musau, a senior three student of Kabore High school.  Erwaru says the students were going to participate in the Coca Cola Post Primary Competition. 

He says the police is hunting for the driver who reportedly run away after the accident. He appealed to the school administrators to regulate transportation of students for game.

Paul Chemitai, a teacher at Kabore High school In Kapchorwa district says they had a football match for both girls and boys at Sippi playground.

He explains that Kabore high school was going to play with Sippi SS in the Copa Coca Cola Post Primary Competitions. 

He points out that the school had hired the vehicle to transport players to the playground. Chemitai says the vehicle was transporting 47 students.
