One Dead, Eight Injured in Bukedea Accident

The incident happened at about 10am this morning, involving a taxi, a Toyota Hiace with number UBE 237D, and a Subaru, with number UAL 992X.

One person has died and eight others survived with critical injuries after two vehicles were involved in an accident in Aloet village, Bukedea Sub County in Bukedea district on Saturday.

The incident happened at about 10am this morning involving taxi Toyota Hiace number UBE 237D and a Subaru number UAL 992X.

The occupant of the taxi who died on the spot has been identified as Faiswal Biro, a resident of Kayembe village, Amus parish, Akwarikwar Sub County in Bukedea district.  

Those who sustained injuries were rushed to Bukedea Health center IV for medical attention and URN understands that seven out of eight have since been transferred to Mbale referral hospital.

According to Edith Nekesa, officer in charge of traffic at Bukedea police, the accident happened as the two vehicles, both heading from Mbale to Soroti overturned after the Subaru ramming behind the taxi.   Nekesa says the driver of the Subaru identified as Walter Ebobu, a resident of Pamba ward in Soroti Municipality tried to overtake the taxi at a sharp corner.

She says the Subaru driver who fled the scene after the accident has since been arrested and is currently detained at Bukedea central police station as detectives are yet to record his statement.
