One Dead In Moroto Accident, Three Hospitalized

Police identifies the deceased as Isabirye Buruhan 24, a resident of Bulange village, Bulange Sub County in Namutumba district. Others admitted in Moroto Referral Hospital under critical condition are Miriam Nangiro and James Buyinza, a biological brother to the departed.

Isuzu truck that got involved in the accident in Moroto.


One person has died instantly following an accident at Nakabat village, Katikeikile Sub County in Moroto district. The accident occurred some 32 kilometres from Moroto town, along the Moroto-Kenyaroad.

Police say an Isuzu truck registration number UAF 223F that was heading to Lodwar town, Kenya loaded with construction material.

However, the unidentified driver is thought to be on the run.

Police identifies the deceased as IsabiryeBuruhan 24, a resident of Bulange village, Bulange Sub County in Namutumbadistrict.

Others admitted in Moroto Referral Hospital under critical condition are Miriam Nangiro and James Buyinza, a biological brother to the departed. 

They were headingto Kenya for a construction job with over 100 bags of cement.

Irene Aceng, the Karamoja Police PublicRelations Officer, attributes the accident to bad driving . She adds that in the last three years at least five vehicles have rolled in the same place killing people as a result of careless driving.

She notes that the police in Moroto are investigating what could have led to the accident and immediate loss of life.

A traffic officer Felix Obura who visited the scene attributes the accident to lack of skill on the driver's part. He says the driver was trying to change gears too suddenly on a bad road and lost control.   

Charles Topoth, a regular user of theMoroto- Kenya road, says the roads need a lot of work to make them safe for drivers and motorists. 

Ssentamu Hassan, a UNRA official, cautions drivers to take extra care on the bad terrain of the roads which needs urgent repair.
